This site is designed to introduce you to Qatar and Qatar University Foundation.
If you are new to the Gulf, there are many aspects of life here in Doha that may appear strange and wonderful at first sight. Coming in from the outside there are many small but important details that may become obstacles to an easy transition to life here with us in Qatar.
I shall be linking sites and giving practical advice on many everyday matters, but for a practical guide to everything in Doha, everyone here swears by the official guide book "Marhaba" which you can buy for 20 rials at the airport or Jarir bookshop.

Driving Licences
It is highly recommended that you bring an International licence with you. If you have a valid licence from America, Europe, Australia, etc, then the Qataris will be happy to give you a local driving licence, but only AFTER your residence visa is processed, which may take some weeks!
A related problem is the lack of a credit card. Fortunately, there are some car rental firms which do not require a credit card, and the reception committee will help you contact one.
If you are from 'other' countries, you will have to take a driving test which is awkward and time-consuming, so an International Licence will enable you to drive for some months until you pass the local test.
An agent can arrange for an International Licence from America for anyone arriving without one.[see link]
Driving technique here in the Gulf may differ somewhat from what you are used to, so please refer to the document linked here:

Qatar University
The University itself is segregated, and most facilities are duplicated. Male teachers can nevertheless teach in female classes, and female teachers can and do teach the male students. [to be continued]

Medical
Medical services here in Doha are few and far between and definitely not up to European standards. We have found the health clinics overcrowded and their reputation is low. Get private health insurance!
